Gym Redevelopment Update

Posted on: May 16th, 2017 by Clem Jones

It has been a little while since our last update on this exciting new development. Since our last report in December 2016, a lot of work has been undertaken with our architects M L Design, Brisbane City Council, Queensland Urban Utilities and a number of consultants ranging from Civil, Structural, Acoustic, Traffic, Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulics together with our Project Manager and Certifier. To date we have spent in excess of $300k in consultancy fees just to get to this point.

Having received our development approval from Council and finalised draft plans, the project has now gone to tender to eight selected builders who have until 31 May 2017 to submit building tenders. Assuming a further three weeks to assess tenders and select our preferred builder, we are hopeful to commence construction on 1 July 2017. As you may have seen, we have already closed the tennis courts and undertaken some demolition work in preparation for the selected builder to move on site.

Clearly, the primary requirement of this new facility will be the quality and quantity of equipment provided and we are working with a number of fitness organisations to obtain the best available product currently available in the market.

While weather amongst other things will influence the timetable, our current thinking is that the build will take approx. six months with handover at the end of calendar year. Assuming an additional three weeks for fitout and two weeks for staff training our official opening will take place in February 2018.

Hopefully, we can minimise disruption to car parking and traffic flow during the building phase and we will provide our valued clients with monthly updates during the building component of the new gym.
